Grange is a beachside western suburb wrapped around its historic jetty, a genuine seaside pocket where a lot of homes are a short walk from the sand. Then the piece gets hot water extraction to flush out the salt and general soil, with a deodorising step where pets or damp have left a smell. By lifting it dry, first, before any water goes near it. We dry-vacuum thoroughly through the seams and under the cushions to pull the grit out physically, because wetting sand turns it to paste and drives it into the fibre. Only once the sand is out do we move on to extraction for the salt and general soiling. Skipping that first step is how sand ends up permanently ground in.
Usually, yes. That smell is a mix of body oils, salt and bacteria held in the fabric, so masking it does not last. We treat it at the source with an enzyme-based deodoriser after the clean, which breaks down what is actually causing the odour rather than covering it. For a beachside family couch that gets a lot of dog and damp, it makes a real difference.
