We identify and test the fabric first so a quality or delicate piece is cleaned with the right, gentler method, while still using enough rinse-extraction to flush the dissolved salt out of the weave. Leather is cleaned and conditioned rather than steamed. You get the salt and sand dealt with without the piece being over-wetted or damaged.
It can be. Coastal properties that are closed up hold damp, and that shows up as a musty smell and sometimes mould spotting on the underside of cushions.
